About
Hi my name is Chris Bednarz
and I am running to be your KUCSC president.
I am currently a fourth year Philosophy student with a minor in Political Science. I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. Coming from a Catholic High School, I decided to come to King's for the Catholic values upon which it is based and its close knit community. I am very fond of my King's experience from first year and would like to contribute back to the King's students. That is why I want to run for KUCSC president. My experience at King's includes holding the position of Residence Council President, involvement in numerous clubs, included co-founding G-PEC, the Global Politics and Economics Club. I am currently the Graduating Class President, giving me a voice and a vote in council, which I use to shape policies which I believe are most beneficial to students. I would like to continue to help King's students and would like to encourage you to check out my platform and make an informed vote in your KUCSC elections.
Platform
Making more services available to King's Students
Enhancing the Special K Award to Include a 300 Dollar Scholarship per Recipient
- I would like to propose a scholarship of 300 dollars per recipient including; the Arts, Social Science and Management and Organizational Studies faculties.
- KUCSC would have a Western Law student come in on Saturdays to one of the study rooms in the library and students could come with leases, tickets and any other legal issues.
- Did you know that the most common time for women to be victims of sexual assault is the beginning three weeks of a new term on campus? This is unacceptable at an institution of learning and there should be
more safety measures put in place to prevent this from happening.
Enhance the Responsibilities of the Environmental Commissioner to become the
Environmental and Sustainability Commissioner
- This individual would work to reduce the carbon footprint that King’s produces. The position’s job would entail working with King’s and making it become more environmentally sustainable and to research methods on how King’s could use greener alternatives. Along with his duties of planning Environmental week.
- Why walk all the way to main campus to visit prospective grad schools. With my plan, King’s would hold a fair in Labatt Hall.
- Again another main campus service which I would make available here at King's.
- Have a spot on the KUCSC website, where first or second year students could get third or fourth year's honours students to tutor them.
Awareness weeks to get your KUCSC more involved at Kings
Academics Awareness Week- This would be held early on in the year to inform primarily first year students of what a module, major, minor, are. Also the difference between required courses and electives, etc.
- Fitness day, Bring in someone from GNC to come in and talk about supplements and other health food products, maybe bring samples in.
- Healthy Eating Day, Vita Mix people to come in.
- Stress Management Day.
- Mental Health Awareness.
- Free YOGA classes all week.
- Get Western's WIN to come to King's.
- No means no, bringing up the issues of date rape and dating violence.
- Information about Women's Shelters.
- Speaker: Naomi Klein.
- Discussion Panel about the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, China and other important political and economic issues around the world.
Helping to grow the Kings Community
3 year strategic Plan- The USC has one I would create one to give the KUCSC a more clear vision of where to go in the future. It could be used for example to put away a certain amount of money a year to upgrade the hockey rink or have a KUCSC designated space in the student center that will be built here.
- These are the boxes were they give you the choice to put in either recycling bottles and paper and garbage to students more accessibility to be green around campus. The company would put the box there and pick up the trash they just want to control the advertising space on the box.
- The winning team could be the opening band if King's chooses to put on a concert next year.
Seminary vs. King’s Hockey Tournament
- To increase the involvement between the Seminary and King’s.
